Two influential science advocates were reportedly invited to speak in defense of science funding at a private, bipartisan retreat this week for the Committee on Space, Science, and Technology. Bill Nye (The Science Guy) and Neil deGrasse Tyson teamed up to “remind the Science Committee of the great value of science,” according to a tweet sent by Nye on Tuesday.
You would think that a congressional science committee would already understand the value of science; however both Nye and Tyson have unfortunately had to trade barbs with committee members in the past on issues such as evolution and the benefits of space exploration. In the following video recorded in March of last year, Tyson (one of our most popular speakers on FORA.tv) testified in front of the same committee to, once again, defend science funding and the importance of science literacy.
In the following video from National Geographic Live, Nye introduces a special event that celebrates 50 years of Solar System exploration and stresses how space exploration brings out the best in humankind.
