Restoring the City of Light: Radical Preservation in Paris

If your New Year’s resolutions include finding more time to travel, then you might find some inspiration in this stunning short film from Benjamin Trancart titled “Paris, the City of Light.”

While Paris has never had a problem attracting tourists, Anthony Bourdain recently captured a type of renaissance going on in the city’s less traveled quarters and documented them in his new show The Layover.

Along with visiting major attractions shown in the video such as the Eiffel Tower, Pont Neuf, and the Louvre, as well as experiencing Bourdain’s take on Paris, there is also the city’s neglected heritage. A group called the The Untergunther have spent the last 30 years on a project called the Paris Urban eXperiment, or “the UX,” which has secretly made restorations throughout Paris in an attempt shine light on the city’s less visited but important historical landmarks.
