Vice Presidential Debate Primer: Biden, Ryan Go Head-to-Head

Setting the stage

Two weeks ago following several awkward moments and miscues that sent the Romney campaign reeling, one might have thought the vice presidential debate would be an October afterthought. But after what was widely regarded as a lackluster performance by the President, the Obama campaign looks to Joe Biden to counter Paul Ryan on the stage tonight.

Analysts believe Biden needs to go on offense without being offensive and off-message as a result of his aggressive style. For Ryan, he must be able to clearly explain his positions without sounding too much like a budget wonk and deftly answer questions that his own ambitious plans don’t clash with Romney’s proposals.

Aside from this debate primer, the following videos offer a look at issues such as strengthening the middle class and securing Medicare, both of which each candidate can lean into in order to win over tonight’s viewers.
