Futurist Ray Kurzweil spends a lot of time thinking about how technology will impact humankind in both the short- and long-term. In his new book, How to Create a Mind, Kurzweil discusses how reverse-engineering the brain will help us understand exactly how it works, allowing us to create transcendental super-intelligent machines. Not only will we be able to build superior technology based, we will someday be able to “upload” our own mind into “the cloud,” which is just one step toward eventually immortality.
This weekend, Kurzweil will kick off The Singularity Summit 2012, an event he co-founded with PayPal CEO and German entrepreneur Peter Thiel that features a number of influential thinkers in academia, research, engineering and business. Kurzweil and others will come together and discuss the most revolutionary technological advancements on the horizon, including the concept from his latest book on how to build a mind.
In the following clip from the 2010 World Technology Summits and Awards, Kurzweil explains how the path to immortality is through current technological advances that are growing at an exponential rate.
