On the campaign trail in Charlotte, North Carolina, Vice President Joe Biden commented that the middle class “has been buried the last four years“– not exactly choice words from a mouthpiece of the Obama administration. Republicans jumped at the gaffe and called it an admission that the incumbent president hasn’t offered the leadership necessary to put the country back on track.
Steve Forbes, the editor-in-chief of Forbes magazine and a two-time Republican candidate for the presidential nomination, talked about the plight of the middle class at a recent Commonwealth Club event where he discussed some simple ways to get the economy back on track. Forbes doesn’t buy into the idea that the current economy represents the “new normal.” Instead, he believes crushing debt and and abnormal monetary policy are contributing to the country’s stagnation.
