Arlen Specter, the former Senator from Pennsylvania who served on both sides of the aisle in his political career, died on Sunday at the age of 82 after a long battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. A principled centrist whose positions on issues such as gun control, affirmative action and healthcare reform often infuriated both Democrats and Republicans alike, Specter was one of the toughest votes to garner in Washington and played influential role in the Senate for over three decades.
