The Monitor Breakfast headed south to Tampa this week for the start of the Republican National Convention and joining the group was Speaker John Boehner, who hadn’t said much on the firestorm of controversy concerning GOP Representative Todd Akin’s very unfortunate remarks on rape the week before; that is, until today.
Boehner said that he did side with Mitt Romney and other Republican leaders who have called for Akin to step aside in his Senate race against Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill. However, Boehner had not called Akin personally as of yet and believes the remarks are just another distraction from what’s on the minds of the average American voter: jobs.
