The biggest news out of Tampa today was Mitt Romney’s official nomination to the Republican ticket. But amid the celebrations by his supporters were livid shouts of protest by none other than those in the Ron Paul camp as well as by grassroots GOP activists from Maine, Texas and other states. The anger is over new rules adopted by the national committee that could make it more difficult for candidates like Paul to challenge more established candidates and seems to represent a power grab by Romney supporters. The motion was approved by Speaker of the House John Boehner, much to the disapproval of many in the convention hall.
Not only are outside challengers hindered by the Republican party establishment, but also by mainstream media. Luckily, by Paul’s own admission, candidates like him have people like Jon Stewart to help them get attention on a national level.
