With stunning geologic formations, Giant Sequoia groves and vast wilderness, Yosemite National Park is one of the most famous and beloved of all the natural areas in the United States. While the majority of visitors come to view the park’s spectacular vistas, Yosemite is also called home by many in the rock climbing community. On any given day in the snow-free months, the park’s granite faces are scaled by those seeking to reach new heights, such as these climbers pictured below near Tenaya Lake.
Jimmy Chin is a National Geographic Emerging Explorer and expedition photographer who has documented some of the most famous names in climbing, including Alex Honnold– a big wall free solo climber who holds speed records on Half Dome and El Capitan. Chin joined National Geographic Live to share stories of documenting the feats of these amazing athletes.
