In March 2011, Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, damaged by a massive earthquake and resulting tsunami, released a large amount of radiation. Scientists are just now discovering how this disaster has affected the surrounding environment. In a recent study published in Scientific Reports, researchers have found butterflies in the area with all sorts of strange abnormalities: stunted wings, irregularly developed eyes, and disfigured antennas.
