Looming budget cuts around the country in states and in the federal government threaten reduced funding for some of the nation’s neediest, including those in early education programs. Politicians on both sides of the aisle agree that early education is critical to sustaining the nation’s competitiveness, but partisan beliefs derail any sort of consensus on how to move forward on the issue.
However, amid this challenging fiscal climate, several states have developed innovative programs that rely on creative strategies for early education that do without the extra dollars needed to fund them. Yet, without federal support, education experts may not be able to expand the programs and sustain momentum in the long term.
