Google’s Nexus 7 tablet is scheduled to arrive in stores by sometime in mid-July, but it’s already stunningly rave reviews as an affordable option that will compete with both the Apple iPad and Amazon’s Kindle Fire. To quote WIRED magazine, “this is how you make a 7” tablet.”
For book, magazine and news publishers that aren’t adapting to life on the tablet, be warned: while there will always be a place for print, products like Google’s Nexus 7 are just making it all that much easier (and affordable) for users to experience a rich media-driven experience through an app, rather than in a daily, weekly, or monthly print edition.
So how long will print last? At a recent Commonwealth Club event, Chris Taylor of Mashable’s editorial team says it’s all about publishing the best content, which will allow people to continue to subscribe and push the medium well into the 21st century.
