Paul Krugman: How to Solve America’s Dismal Economic Outlook

The job numbers from this morning’s report by the U.S. Department of Labor were “dismal” according to many sources, including a New York Times article that stated weak hiring across the country resulted in a gain of only 69,000 jobs, which is less than half of what analysts expected.

While there have been a few bright spots, including robust numbers in auto sales over the last several months, real estate and manufacturing industries have limped along, exacerbated by the ongoing economic crisis in Europe, where unemployment within the Eurozone reached an astonishing 11%– the highest in over 15 years.

Can the United States extract itself from its current state of stagnation? At a recent Commonwealth Club event, economist Paul Krugman offered insight into a plan that would put the country on the road to a quick, strong recovery; relying on, of course, a certain political climate in Washington.
