President Obama’s announcement in support of marriage equality was hailed by gay rights groups as a huge step in the right direction, as gay and lesbian couples were fully validated by a sitting president for the first time in history. But as we saw with the vote in North Carolina on Tuesday that banned same-sex marriage in the state, there is a lot of work yet to be done in order to achieve equal rights for the gay community.
