Fashion Sensors: the Emerging World of Wearable Computers

Imagine a sensor in your shoes that allows you to operate a smartphone or other device with just hand gestures. How about a piece of clothing that monitors how many calories you consume and burn in real-time? Or, purchasing the long-awaited Google Glass as a birthday present for a friend or loved-one– the eyewear that will provide you with a heads-up display on what’s happening around you.

You probably won’t see this technology in the near future in any of your Nike running shoes or Levi’s jeans (except for perhaps the Google Glasses) but they are on they way, according to Lynne Bruning, an award winning designer who has explored the concept of “eTextiles.” She joined the stage at Maker Faire to talk about the exciting world of wearable computers and the emerging trends within the industry.
