Children’s Author Maurice Sendak Dies and Leaves a “Terrifying” Legacy

The author of Where the Wild Things Are, Maurice Sendak, has died. He was 83. The obit in the New York Times described his legacy as wrenching “the picture book out of the safe, sanitized world of the nursery and plung[ing] it into the dark, terrifying and hauntingly beautiful recesses of the human psyche.”
