Now it’s all but official, Mitt Romney can spend the summer as the presumptive Republican nominee galvanizing support in his run against President Obama. Aside from choosing a running mate, much of the media’s attention will also focus on Romney’s wife Ann, including the role she will play in the upcoming election.
According to a recent article in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the American public is largely unfamiliar with Ann Romney. However, those who know her see her as more than just a former stay-at-home mom, mother to five boys and grandmother to 16 grandchildren who called her “Mamie.” Instead, they see her as a vital political force within her husband’s campaign.
On the other side of the coin, Jodi Kantor, Arts and Leisure editor at the New York Times, described the “political potency” of Michelle Obama’s role alongside her husband’s campaign for re-election in front of a Commonwealth Club audience.
