Photographer Tom Abercrombie spent the better part of 40 years on assignment for National Geographic. While his journeys took him to all seven continents, including a trip to the South Pole in 1956 where he was the first photojournalist to cover an overwinter stay with Antarctic explorer Paul Siple, he was best known for his stunning photos of the Middle East.
Abercrombie passed away in 2006, but his legacy lives on through his photographs and through his wife Lynn Abercrombie, who shared stories and images from her late husband’s career with National Geographic Live such as traveling to the Islamic holy city of Mecca, uncovering meteors in the bilstering heat of the Arabian desert, and documenting traditional ways of life in Oman.
