Britain’s Unlikely New Drug Policy Advisor

He’s known for his quirky movies roles, especially as Aldous Snow in Judd Apatow’s Get Him to the Greek and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, his outrageous gig as host at the 2008 MTV Music Awards, and his short-lived marriage to pop starlet Katy Perry. Now, Russell Brand is taking on an entirely new role as an advisor to the British government.

Brand, who struggled with a longtime addiction to heroin, recently advocated for treatment over imprisonment for drug addicts and offered personal testimony in front of the House of Commons in London.

In an appearance on TimesTalks last year, Brand talked about how he landed his acting roles and also shared stories about his life as an addict to drugs, alcohol and sex.
