Amnesty International reported that America’s 43 executions in 2011 ranked it fifth in the world for capital punishment. Only China, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Iraq were ahead of it. The United States was also the only western democracy to carry out capital punishment last year, and China executes more people than the rest of the world combined.
