Today marks a long-anticipated change in Google’s privacy policy, and in the weeks leading up to it we’ve been inundated with information on what these changes mean to the user as well as tips and tricks on how to prepare for them.
There is some debate as to whether or not Google is violating law by changing it’s policy, especially in the European Union where a judge claimed the search giant isn’t being entirely transparent. Others say that Google has to pay the bills somehow and, after all, there’s no such thing as a free lunch.
Peter Barron, a communications executive with Google who has worked with a number of privacy groups in the past year, explained their use of the information from the company’s point of view and how it actually falls in line with their company philosophy, “don’t be evil.”
