Is Google on the Wrong Side of SOPA?

Google was one of several websites today that protested against SOPA and PIPA, the two anti-piracy and intellectual property bills currently making their way through the U.S. House and Senate. But Jon Miller, Chief Digital Officer with News Corporation, questioned whether Google should reconsider its stance at a Paley Center for the Media talk titled, “Exploring Entertainment in the Cloud.”

Miller says he was recently in a meeting with News Corporation CEO Rupert Murdoch (an outspoken supporter of both bills) and claims Google is actually making money off pirated content:

Rupert Murdoch (and News Corp) simply does not understand how the Internet works. He seems to have a particular thing against Google, dating back long before SOPA/PIPA. Selling ads around search results… so what?

Murdoch resents not having got there first, that Google is ahead of the game and News Corp are losing out in the competitive world of news and online media.
