Your Fashion Future: FORA.tv Presents TEEN VOGUE Fashion University

Have you ever wondered how designers get their creations from the studio on to the runway? Is it possible to become successful in the fashion industry without appearing on a reality show?

On October 22, FORA.tv will present the 6th annual TEEN VOGUE Fashion University live from New York City. This daylong event will feature some of fashion’s top design stars as well as up-and-coming names that are currently making their mark.

While the general public knows Michael Kors as a judge on the hit Bravo show Project Runway, designers and celebrities have been inspired by his creations for more than 30 years. Kors started his career by designing a popular line of women’s wear for Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue, and celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Rachael McAdams and Heidi Klum have all worn his creations.

Taiwanese-American designer Alexander Wang is known for his inspired urban style that draws upon a variety of elements, from French chic to rock grunge. He launched his own women’s collection in 2007 at the age of 23 and the next year won $200,000 from the CDFA/Vogue magazine fashion fund to expand his line. Wang’s designs are now available in more than 30 retailers around the world.

Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez know how to turn a singular artistic vision into a fashion success. They attended the Parson School of Design and began a collaborative project that was eventually noticed and turned into a product line by by Barney’s of New York. Their collection is now popularly known as Proenza Schouler and has been hailed as reviving American fashion.

Before he became a fashion designer, Peter Som was influenced by his parents who encouraged him to study the ideals of form and function. After apprenticing with Michael Kors and Calvin Klein, he now infuses those ideals into his current creations with an effortless and elegant line that reflects a new angle in American design.

Jason Wu started his career in fashion designing doll clothing when he was only a teenager. He eventually shifted into women’s wear, and his rapid success caught the eye of Vogue magazine fashion editors. Soon he was creating dresses for Michelle Obama, including her famous one-shoulder, floor-length gown for the 2008 inauguration ball. Wu has since held the distinction as one of the few fashionistas who design dresses for the First Lady.
