Next Week: The Future of Web Development, Marine Diversity and Private Equity

What kinds of conferences are happening in the United States and around the world next week? Here is sample of some of the more interesting and influential gatherings in technology, science and business.

Does the future of Internet and mobile applications lie in the HTML5 programming language? A number of Web developers and designers certainly think so, and on September 27 the HTML5 Developer Conference kicks off in San Francisco to discuss current industry trends. Speakers from Yahoo!, Mozilla Labs, Google, Netflix and reddit will offer insight into how their companies are contributing to what will be the next standardized language for the World Wide Web.

Our oceans are an irreplaceable resource, yet through a variety of human factors such as pollution, overfishing and even climate change, the future of marine life is in jeopardy. From September 26 through 30, attendees of the World Conference on Marine Biodiversity in Aberdeen, Scotland, will discuss the impact of changes in our oceans and will identify the most critical threats and research priorities in the scientific community today.

Identifying sources of private equity investment is a difficult task in the current economic environment. But on September 27 and 28, leading editors from Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal will host the Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst Conference in New York and offer insight on what it takes to raise a fund, where opportunities currently lie and how to deal with government regulations.
