The Big Question: Is It Okay for the United States to Assassinate Its Enemies?

Yes, says author Parag Khanna. Dictators like Gaddafi in Libya have the capability of doing create harm and, in the right circumstances, they should be killed. Society is better without them. No, says Juan E. Mendez, former president of the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights. It is immoral for countries to work outside the law. Acts such as torture and assassination are not justified even in the context dictatorships and terrorist attacks.

    Disgusting rationalization- Ghaddafi was good enough to befriend and do business with a couple years ago. Today, he should be shot on sight? What we are basically arguing here is that the US govt (and the interests it is beholden to) have the right to kill, without evidence or trial, anyone on the planet! What will the US government do if say, a whistleblower intends to out a major official or operation- do you doubt the Pentagon/the president wouldn’t use their ‘authority’ to stop damage to their career/financial interests.

    Even in the 21st century- absolute power corrupts absolutely! This will be abused- FOOLS!
