Check out three conferences next week that will expand your mind on new technologies and new media.
August 15-16 – Social Media Marketing Summit
First up, two days in San Francisco will give anybody interested in leveraging social media for marketing a leg up on the competition. The Social Media Marketing Summit brings together some of the top minds on today’s trends. It’s all happening in the cradle of social media itself, and the speaker list reads like a who’s who of current players. LinkedIn’s senior social media manager and chief blogger; Adobe’s senior manager of product and marketing; and comScore’s VP of media and search will deliver keynotes.
August 15-17 – NASA IT Summit 2011
The NASA IT Summit, also happening in San Francisco next week, is one of the nation’s top forums for IT professionals from the federal, private, and education sectors. On the agenda: CIOs from Facebook and Johnson & Johnson, and the senior VP of Amazon Web Services. Hosted by NASA CIO Linda Cureton, the summit is a chance for the space agency’s members to share best practices and get up-to-date information on the latest trends in the tech landscape. There will also be a daily focus on education: Hundreds of teens will meet with leaders in technology to learn about careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. Many more will participate in online webinars.
August 18 – Screening and Discussion “Page One: Inside the New York Times”

The Paley Center for Media will host a screening and discussion of the documentary Vanity Fair has called, “slick, fun, and surprisingly sexy.” “Page One: Inside the New York Times” chronicles the metamorphosis of the media industry from inside the Times newsroom. Even as reporters cover the day’s top issues, they wonder how America’s most venerable newspaper will remain solvent. Following the screening, Times writers David Carr and Brian Stelter will join NPR media correspondent David Folkenflik for what is sure to be an engaging discussion.
