Should the US Provide Support for the Rebels in Libya?

This Week’s Big Question: Should the US Provide Support for the Rebels in Libya?

Last week, the US formally recognized the rebels in Libya, a move, no doubt, supported by Sen. John Kerry. We have waited a long time to see the rise of democracy in the Middle East, he says. We must support the rebels or risk playing into the hands of repressive dictators and religious extremists. Perhaps, say journalists Lindsey Hilsum and Roger Cohen, but supporting Libyan rebels could be problematic. They are inexperienced and disorganized. They want the US and NATO to do their fighting for them.
