Next Week: Spies, Talent, Technology, and Israel, Oh My!

At FORA.tv, we know the world is thinking. And a myriad of conferences on espionage, defining talent, Israel, and technology make us surer than ever that great ideas are in the pipeline everywhere. Here’s what to pay attention to next week.

July 18-22 – Chautauqua Institution: Spies, Technology and Espionage

Over the entire week, the Chautauqua Institution will host a series of talks on “Spies, Technology and Espionage.” With the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks just around the corner, what have we learned about gathering intelligence? Where does the line between civil liberties and national security lie today? A former CIA officer, former director general of MI5, and the former director of US Central Intelligence, among others, will examine the state of the American intelligence community.

Speaking of intelligence, Ari Emanuel, co-CEO of the talent agency William Morris Endeavor – who was recently ranked #4 on the Entertainment Weekly “Smartest People in Hollywood” list – will sit down at the Churchill Club with CEO of LinkedIn and current Silicon Valley sweetheart, Jeff Weiner. Among the topics the duo will discuss: How will talent be defined in the future, as conventional and digital media converge? July 18-20 – CUFI Washington/Israel Summit

Turning our attention from California to Washington, Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the largest pro-Israel organization in the US, will hold its Washington/Israel Summit next week. With the advent of “The Arab Spring,” Islamic political parties are sprouting up all over the Middle East, and Israel’s political strategy in the region couldn’t be more tenuous. CUFI’s summit this year will host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who will speak live via satellite.

July 19-21 – FOSE Conference

To foster ideas between the public and private sectors, the Federal Office Systems Exposition (FOSE), held in Washington, will convene leaders in technology and decision makers in federal, state and local government. Speakers, including Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff James E. Cartwright and co-founder of Apple Computers, Steve Wozniak, will attempt to answer a number of key questions: How can technology better serve government offices? How can the government engender technological innovation?
