How can you not like mobile? It’s the current sweetheart of the technology industry, even though there are serious technological and business obstacles to overcome before this marketing platform reaches its ultimate potential. Much like the Internet itself, industry leaders see endless opportunity in mobile – the key will be seizing it.
With that in mind, a myriad of mobile innovators and trend-hounds have been invited to the L2 Clinic, Friday, June 24, to present what’s next and what still needs to be done. If last year’s clinic is any indication, this is definitely a conference to watch.
Twelve months ago, the event kicked off with wireless and interactive industry expert Noah Elkin saying 2010 would be the Year of Mobile, the year when the technology would hit a real tipping point for marketers. Of course, Elkin reminded us that pundits for the last decade have been saying the same thing. Still, smartphone usage patterns, spending on mobile advertising, and the proliferation of apps are on the rise.
Associate Professor at NYU Stern Anindya Ghose presented findings from his research in Japan and South Korea, where mobile usage is extremely high, and extrapolated the future of US mobile engagement based on these markets. He also measured brand value through Twitter, and gave insight into how companies could improve their Twitter equity.
As the 2011 clinic gets underway, the mobile environment is even more mature, ripe for marketing opportunities of all kinds. We’re tied to our smartphones and have fully adopted – even come to depend on – up-to-the-minute tweets, location-based check-ins, geolocal games, and hyper-local news on tap.
The question that this year’s clinic hopes to answer is, “What now?” Look for fresh perspective and new ideas around engaging mobile users from Foursquare’s Business Development Manager, Google’s Marketing Manager for mobile ads, and iCrossing’s VP of Mobile, among others.
In just half a day, these industry luminaries will bring marketers and advertisers up to date on the latest mobile trends, and will present their research and findings on where things are going. They will also present actionable case studies. The agenda contains such intriguing topics as, “Understanding Today’s Mobile Ecosystem,” “Innovative Mobile Advertising Strategies for Prestige Brands” and “From Multi-channel to Mega Channel: The New Mobile Landscape.”
