Searching for Video?

The fast-growing demand for online video long ago revealed a problem: Unlike text, searching video is very, very difficult. Simply finding the program you want can be a challenge, let alone finding a certain moment of a program.

At FORA.tv, we’re constantly improving our search capabilities to keep you watching. We also get help from partners who are dedicated to make video search as easy as using Google. In an excellent New York Times Magazine article, Virginia Heffernan calls this quest finding an Image in a Haystack. She cites VideoSurf, as a young company whose image recognition technology may crack the code of not just finding a desired program, but that sought after moment within a program.

      Hi,

      The search function is not only limited, but incredibly poor.

      Case in point:
      A video with the title "Logic Paradigm for C++".

      Searching for "c++":
      0 results

      Searching for "logic":
      "Logic Paradigm for C++" is among the results.

      I mean, there's bad search, and then there's provokatively bad search.. Sorry to say.

      I agree with your comments about video. We have a lot of vacation home video content and it has been difficult to parse on the web.

      Great, now if you could only fix the search function you already have. When I search for "transcripts" I get the number of transcripts found–but where are they? When I click on the first video in the given list, there is no transcript. Ditto for every other video, and every other time. It is so annoying. I have been looking for the elusive "four" transcripts out of '2000' plus videos for almost a week–still no luck. Yes, I play the videos, and click on transccripts while the vid is playing.
      Back to Youtube.

      Yeah it is hard trying to find a particular video. This is a step in the right direction.
